CAMILE - Concerted Action on Management Information for Europe
EC DGXIII Project - Telematics for Libraries
CAMILE promoted and spread the combined results of four existing EC Libraries Projects, namely DECIDE, DECIMAL, EQLIPSE and MINSTREL, to potential user groups across Europe. The co-ordinating partners, through a core management group, developed syntheses of their results as they arose and fed these into a series of thematic group discussions to form the building blocks for a model European travelling workshop. The workshop ran at a number of test sites contributed by the associated partners involved in the current projects, and individual countries' professional associations were encouraged to continue the workshop series beyond the life of the separate projects.
The themes to be discussed were drawn up by a consultant working with the core management group. The workshops comprised of sessions based on papers and demonstrations arising from the syntheses of results, and sessions which were locally determined in conjunction with associated partners in the particular country or region, working closely with their local professional organisations.
The core management group deliberated mainly by email, supplemented by meetings to allocate responsibilities and brief the consultant. Themetic groups communicated mainly by email. The CAMILE work was further developed through the normal management meetings of the individual projects.
Objectives
CAMILE created and tested a framework for the concerted dissemination of results from a cluster of related projects. In particular, CAMILE:
- established the secretariat for a core management group (CMG) and a series of thematic or subject interest groups (SIGs);
- selected and briefed a consultant/facilitator to extract core themes from the results of four projects;
- commissioned the consultant to produce a synthesis of these results - themes for further discussion by subject interest groups drawn from the CMG's projects' associated partners;
- established a mechanism for the SIG's to communicate, and monitor their work through the CMG's projects' management meetings and activities;
- developed a model workshop in conjunction with associated partners and the consultant;
- planned and ran the workshop in a selection of test locations agreed between the CMG and their associated project partners;
- reported on the processes involved in dissemination activities of this kind.
