About Us
The Centre for Research in Library and Information Management was established in 1993 to undertake a wide range of research in the field, with a focus on technological and social issues. The Centre moved from the University of Central Lancashire to Manchester Metropolitan University in 1998.
Current research
Current research is concerned with:
- The use of games in education
- Accessibility and usability of information
- Distributed delivery of library and information services
- Evaluation:
- Evaluation of projects and programmes
- User testing and evaluation
- Quality management techniques and performance measurement
Staff
CERLIM staff are drawn from four sources: permanent staff; researchers recruited to work on particular funded projects; staff seconded; and visiting researchers. There are also research degree student opportunities.
Funding
CERLIM has undertaken work for a wide variety of bodies, including the European Commission DGXIII, Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and the Higher Education Funding Councils' Joint Information Systems Committee, and a number of universities and other bodies.
Collaboration
A number of projects involve collaboration with partners across the UK and in several other countries. These include universities, colleges and public libraries throughout the UK and Europe.
Consultancy and teaching
CERLIM staff undertake consultancy work in the UK and overseas where appropriate, contribute to the University's teaching programme and supervise research degree candidates.
Location
The Centre is housed within the Department of Information and Communications and The Information Research Institute (TIRI), which are within the Faculty of Humanities, Law and Social Science.
