EDNER : Formative Evaluation of the DNER a JISC funded project |
STRAND BWorkpackage B1Aim: To develop and maintain a 'technology watch' on developments in portal architecture from a global perspective including a systematic investigation of portal features Description: A 'technology watch' function will be maintained by examining how MyPortal type developments are progressing in terms of technical capability, interface design and embedded features. The Workpackage will also develop a profile of features of JISC, institutional, and commercial portals to facilitate benchmarking of JISC portal developments. This activity links into the main technology assessment in WP-A-2. Workpackage B2Aim: To identify extent of integration of resources within the JISC portals and at institutional level, and concomitant facilitators and barriers to interoperability. Description: Whilst emphasis will be on the RDN subject portals, there will be similar analysis of non-subject portals where their aims are broadly in line with those of the subject portals. Issues relating to integration and interoperabilty will be identified using document analysis (Project plans, reports) and interviews with key informants (from SPP, Results, Xgrain, ZBALSA). Both operational and strategic issues will be identified. This activity links into the main technology assessment in WP-A-2. Workpackage B3Aim: To undertake user testing of the JISC subject portals Description: Building on the quality attributes framework used in EDNER Phase 1, the JISC portals will be subject to testing by CERLIM and by large-scale end-user testing. In the first instance, testing of the generic portal will be undertaken by CERLIM. Latterly, detailed user testing of the portals will be undertaken with cohorts of students and lecturers with a subject-specific focus. Student and lecturer preferences will be identified. |
